I frequently go through bouts in which I search YouTube in an attempt to rediscover things that I loved as a child. On one of these recent excursions, I was suddenly struck with the idea to look up the song “Chicken Soup with Rice,” sung by Carole King with lyrics and illustrations by Maurice Sendak. Sure enough, there it was in all of its glory– “Chicken Soup with Rice!” For those of you who haven’t seen it, or just want to take a little trip down memory lane, here it is:
After watching “Chicken Soup with Rice” I remembered “Where the Wild things Are” and “In the Night Kitchen” and I watched those as well. However, I was the most excited to find the following two videos from “Really Rosie”, written and illustrated by Maurice Sendak with music by Carole King.
The first video, “Alligators All Around” is great because you just can’t watch it without being happy. The second, “Pierre”, is my favorite collaboration between Sendak and King and just may be my favorite song of all time as well!
It is probably clear by now that I have an affinity for children’s animations, as well as an affinity for Maurice Sendak and Carole King. However, I wanted to share these with you and I hope watching them makes you as happy as it made me!
